PROJECTS REPORT

Viv Corbishley, Projects Director Andy Hopwood, Projects Assistant

Happy New year everyone. Hope Santa brought you all what you wished for and more. The Projects and Marketing Teams have been working very hard to obtain events this year and hope that you will enjoy what we have lined up for you.

As I write this the training weekends are 90 days away or less, time to get your kit inspected repairs done etc, both training weekends will be held at Tatton Old Hall. Both have similar outlines where Saturdays will be our time for "practice" and training, while the Sundays, Tatton Old Hall will be open to the public, so an opportunity to publicise our final visit to Tatton in September.
Confederate Training Weekend will be 4-5 April 2009.
Federal Training Weekend will be 18-19 April 2009

1-4 May 2009:

Our first major event of the year will again see us travelling to Rockingham Castle for Call to Arms, a large multi period event, we have 3 battles to fight and for those that wish an opportunity to fight with the Napoleonic's. Yes, they want to play with us too; my sources inform me the Confederate battalion could be greatly swelled with a motley crowd of militia. Major Davies you have been warned!!

We were well received last year with ACWS members being mentioned more than once for their helpfulness with powder guard, gate guard and anything else that was asked of them by the organisers. There was only one incident that was brought to my attention and that was a fire pit incorrectly filled in, don't leave your beer tins, ash, unburned wood etc in the fire pit, take them out, when cold and then replace the turf.

Black powder will be supplied by the organisers; the instructions are the same as last year, for those that don't know:
THERE IS TO BE NO BLACKPOWDER BROUGHT ON TO SITE AT ALL.

ACWS have no involvement with the distribution of powder, if you are unsure contact Andy Hopwood.

You will be able to arrive from Friday 1st May from 8.00am and you will be able to stay until Tuesday 5th May.

Venue details: Rockingham Castle, Rockingham, near Corby, LE16 8TH.

[PLEASE NOTE: Since publication of this column, the Call To Arms event has been CANCELLED, but an ACWS / SOSKAN event has been organised for the Sunday/Monday ast the same venue.]

30-31 May 2009:

Please note that this is not the Bank Holiday!

This weekend finds us in the beautiful surroundings of Hornby Castle, as the guests of the Military Vehicle Trust, M.V.T. You will be allowed to arrive from 29th May after midday and departure is after 4.00pm on the Sunday. There will be a skirmish both days and living history. There is a village pub that does excellent meals and real ale, within a short walking distance. Raised fires please, dogs are allowed and usual rules apply. You will find it about 8 miles east of Lancaster, Lancashire, on the A683. Location: LA2 8JU . It is about 20 miles north of Houghton Tower.

6-7 June 2009:

Hadfield Carnival, Glossop Community College, Hadfield Site, Newshaw Lane, Hadfield, Nr. Glossop, Derbyshire This should be a nice weekend with camping from Friday 5th June until Monday 8th June. The event is on the Sunday with Living History and a battle in the afternoon. Further details to follow.

20-21 June 2009:

Our annual outing to Stanford Hall, Stanford hall is signposted from Junction 19 of the M1. Please observe the yellow ACWS signs as we are at the back of the house. Please do not use the front drive at all.

Saturday is a private day, with a public battle on Sunday.

We also have another couple of small projects we are working on at the moment, so those of you who can, keep an eye on the Website.

I hope this has whetted your appetite for the rest of the season. If you require any further information contact, at first your company commander or Andy or Viv.

See you all soon
