CAMP FIRE GOSSIP

18th REGIMENT MISSOURI VOLUNTEER INFANTRY

17th July 2007.

Dear Mike

I was one of a number of SoSkAn members who attended Stanford Hall as your guest at the weekend. I write to say how very much all eleven members of this Company enjoyed the event. We were guests of Phil Golder and the members of the 118th Pennsylvania Regiment. Phil and the boys and girls made sure we were all made welcome, partaking of their roast beef meal on Saturday evening and even allowing me to win one of their raffle prizes! We were able to repay them by teaching them how to 'stack arms'. We had hosted them at Bath last year and they were keen to reciprocate; an arrangement that we hope to make more permanent as time goes by. Both units are keen not to be put off by the north-south divide and want to foster the best of relations between members of both groups for the furtherance of our great hobby.

We enjoyed the camp layouts, the civilian street and the ease of registration. The tactical on Saturday with that stunning area in which to manoeuvre was as good as any ground I have fought on in this country. Sunday's battle was magnificent and with such a great backdrop as Stanford Hall and with the small but enthusiastic crowd, made the winning even sweeter. But the winning or losing of course is just a minor consideration when everything else is right. With members like Phil and Tim Davies, it is a pleasure to be members of the same hobby. Please convey our thanks to all members of the board; we do know how much hard work goes into the planning, preparation and implementation of these events. Well done and thank you.

Kind regards,

Rod Dann.
1st Lieutenant, Commanding Company E,
18th Regiment Missouri Volunteer Infantry.
