Union News or Nick's Utterings

Nick Richards, Federal C.O.

One thing we should have all learned by now is how to set our camp up when the public are about. The filming weekend at Weston Park gave us the chance to do just that. The Federal Battalions camp last season was in danger of looking like the Camping Club. I know we have a lot of family groups on camp but we must tighten up our camp impression in the coming season. I know some of you do make the effort but we must try Harder. The ACWS is moving forward next season and we must make the federal battalion move forward with it.

We will be doing more battalion drill and making sure we are all working from the same drill manual, having Officers & NCO’s meetings to discuss everyone’s interpretation of the drill manual.

The morale and fighting qualities in the federal battalion is second to none, as the battalion has proved in the field against ------- people time and time again, teaching them the error of their Sesesh ways.

As you proved at the filming at Weston Park and I must pay tribute to all of you who were able to attend for the way you mucked in without complaint, with all the marching and some of you lying in the MUD for long spells during the film shots. I was proud of you all.

This season with your participation, The road to Malvern hill and the road after Malvern Hill, will be an improved one for the federal battalion. It is no big deal if every individual takes a look at their own Uniform and Equipment and looks at how they can improve their impression. Then the whole battalion will improve, it is up to us all to make it so.

I look forward to it, lets not be outdone by ------- people

Yours in the cause,

Major Nick Richards, C.i.C., Federal Battalion, ACWS

P.S. Will all Company commanders please let me know who is going to the filming weekend, so we can have an idea of numbers
